ABOUT
"One Upon A Time in Luton" is a project led by arts organisation White Rabbit with artists Bernadette Russell, Emma Waterford, Melanie Smith and Hannah Marshall.
The team has been busy working with children from Kingfisher and Luton primary schools as well as residents from Victory Care Home. Together we have been creating an exciting and beautiful map of Luton and the surrounding areas, with 12 "stopping points" on a circular route. The route takes in the streets of Luton as well as the beautiful Darland Banks
Inspired by local history, folklore and legends, the participants have been busy "story hunting" and have co-created 12 new stories which will be recorded for you to listen to as you follow the route on the map, either in the comfort of your own home, or by walking it!
You'll discover the answers to many local mysteries such as
Why and how did the railings get so bent near the car park?
Why there are so many crows in the area?
What happens if you walk through the "Sloe Forest" at the top of Darland Banks?
Are slow worms actually quite fast?
Is it true that the horses in Darland Banks can talk?
What happened when the Nightingale and the Crow had a singing competition?
And what is the truth about the giant black cats?
All these and more!
There will soon be a downloadable map and 12 audio tracks with the stories and a soundtrack you can listen to via this website- we will be sharing more information in Luton Library as the project develops.
