Once Upon A Time in Luton

“Once Upon A Time in Luton” is a series of 12 pre-recorded short stories created by Owl Class, Year Five from Kingfisher Primary School; Team Seal, Year Four from Luton Primary School; residents and staff of Victory Care Home and visitors and staff of Luton Library. The stories are suitable for all ages, adults and children. They are accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack and an illustrated map which you can find at the links below.

How it works:

  • Pick up a map from Luton Library or download it by clicking on the round "Map" link below. Your journey begins and ends at Luton Library.

  • You can listen to the recorded stories by clicking on the round "Soundcloud" link below, or by clicking on the Map and Stories link at the top of this page.

  • If you are walking the route, connect a pair of headphones to your charged smartphone, and follow the map whilst listening to the tracks.

  • If you are listening from home, follow the map and listen to the stories- your imagination will take you around the route!

  • If you would prefer to read, you can access written versions of the stories by clicking on the round "Written Stories" link below.

The stories the participants created are all about the mysteries of Luton and the surrounding areas of Medway.

You can listen to them on your smartphone and follow the route on the map whilst you walk, but it works just as well to listen from the comfort of your own home, following the map with your eyes and imagination.

The map can be picked up for free from Luton Library, 2 Nelson Terrace, Chatham, Kent, ME5 7LA, or you can download it at the links below.

As you listen, you’ll hear stories about mischievous goblins, brave giants, crows who love to party, magical slow worms, kind pigeons, romantic crows, curious cats, wise horses and more.

If you are walking the route please allow two hours. Please be warned if you are walking, there are steep inclines, lots of steps, a busy road to cross, and some tricky terrain- make sure you dress appropriately before you set off! We are very sorry to say that the walking route is not accessible to people with limited mobility or wheelchair users.

If you are listening at home, it’ll take about one hour.
